4-AcO-MET or 4-Acetoxy-N-methyl-N-ethyltryptamine is a synthetic indole alkaloid molecule of the tryptamine class. The core structure of tryptamines is composed of a bicyclic, indole heterocycle that is attached at R3 and an amino group via an electron side chain. 4-AcO–MET is replaced at R4 by an acetoxy functional group CH3COO+ in its indole heterocycle. It also has a methyl and an ethyl chains bound to the terminal amino RN of its tryptamine-backbone (MET). 4-AcO–MET is an analog to 4-HO-MET, and the N-substituted homolog of 4-AcO–DMT.

4-AcO-MET Effects

The psychedelic effects of 4-AcO–MET are thought to be due to its partial agonist activity at the 5-HT2A receptor. The role of these interactions in the psychedelic experience is still unknown.

This compound could also be quickly hydrolyzed to the 4-HO-MET free phenolic, but human studies on the metabolism of this drug are lacking. It would explain their subjective effects in a similar way.
